Santiago SanchezSpaniard who walked to Qatar to watch World Cup 2022, was reported missing in Iran. Apparently, he was imprisoned.
Launch BBC, said one of his colleagues, Franco Salamanca. Sanchez is known to have been arrested and imprisoned in Iran, a country currently in turmoil due to the death of activists Mahsa Amini.
“He was arrested and is now incarcerated in Tehran,” he said.
The Spanish foreign minister tried to contact the BBC. However, no answer was given.
Salamanca said he had planned to meet Sanchez in Iran. However, she canceled it for business reasons.
“It was a coincidence that I spoke with him, because I intended to follow him on the last leg of his trip to Iran. For work reasons, I was unable to join him and stay in Spain,” Salamanca said.
Sanchez had previously uploaded a photo to his Instagram. “Last village in Iraq, the mountains separate me from Iran, the next country before heading to Qatar,” she wrote on Instagram.
Santiago Sanchez, who is also a Real Madrid fan, began his journey in January. He crossed Europe and Turkey, sleeping in tents, hotels, in residential areas, to arrive in Qatar to testify World Cup 2022.
The man, who is also a former paratrooper, therefore intends to travel to Tehran, where a television station awaits him for an interview. Next, he will head to Bandar Abbas, a port in southern Iran, before taking a boat to Qatar.
Sanchez said the internet in Iran was bad, so his family didn’t feel anxious. However, no news of him for 10 days made his family panic. On 17 October Sanchez was reported missing.
The family was then informed by the Spanish government that Santiago Sanchez imprisoned. There are no official reasons for the detention of the fan.
