“He embodied the passion for F1 better than anyone. He was the last of those craftsmen who made F1 with Colin Chapmans, Ken Tyrrell, Ron Dennis and a few others. It’s a part of F1 history that goes with him. His family was obviously his wife Ginny who was great, his three children, but it was also his stable. She was the one who kept him going after his accident. When I think of Frank, it’s the word “passion” that immediately comes to mind. He did everything for his stable, even mortgaged his house! Frank, those were the eyes that shone when you told him about his drivers, his victories, just the race.
Everything that touched his team illuminated him. At the same time, he was a very tough person. He had succeeded in pain, and forgave little. He had to harden himself up to be successful, and suddenly he was having a hard time showing his feelings. He was a tough person, but that was part of the charm of the Williams team. Maybe that’s why the team didn’t know how to take the right turn at some point. Frank and his men were racers. Real ones! I have always had a warm relationship with Frank, very open and honest. 1993 was not my best season in human terms, but it has always been very frank between us. Frank was a very honest person, which is not always easy in this industry. This is why we have always remained on very very good terms and why his death saddens me a lot. “
