On Tuesday, March 30, 2021, Sister Island mourns the disappearance of one of the pillars of the world of sega. Eddy Armelle, one of the voices of the legendary Mauritian group Cassiya, is no longer, as our colleagues from Défi Media announced this morning, and as L’Express de Maurice also confirmed to us.
The 60-year-old artist passed away early this morning. Eddy Armelle was diagnosed with cancer and suffered from health complications, reports Défi Media. He sang alongside Désiré François, the other voice of the group.
25 years of career with Cassiya
Eddy Armelle is also known for having written and composed a song which went beyond the borders of Mauritius to also become a standard in Reunion Island: the title “Jouni Jouna”, released in 1994, and which is still very much appreciated close to 30 years later.
After having accompanied the group for more than 25 years, Eddy Armelle had left the group without giving up music. It was alongside his son Donovan that he pursued his musical career.
