Disagreements over EU Asylum System Reforms: Hungary and Poland Stand Firm

The universally symbolic document fell victim to relentless disagreements over reforming the bloc’s asylum system.

Arriving at the summit, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán made it clear that he was not ready for any compromise.

He was furious that a package of reforms to the immigration system was recently approved by a so-called majority procedure, ignoring the objections of Budapest and Warsaw.

Orban insists that such decisions can only be made with the consent of all member states.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Moraveckis also said on the social communication site X that he did not support the declaration.
