Microsoft has said that two settings in Windows 11 can affect game performance, as these settings are enabled by default. Microsoft allows you to disable these options, but there are also reasons you might want to keep them.
However, if your gaming PC isn’t great, it might be worth a try.
Microsoft has released a new support document detailing the two features and their potential impact. The company found that Memory Integrity and Virtual Machine Platform (VMP) impacted gaming performance for some users.
VMP does pretty much what it says on the packaging: it provides the services of the Windows 11 virtual core machine.
Memory integrity plays a fairly important role however, as it is responsible for checking for new drivers and making sure they come from a reliable source, Digitartlends reported.
It protects your system from malicious code, which is why you may want to avoid disabling this feature, and if you disable it, it’s a good idea to re-enable it after your game session is over.
Unfortunately Microsoft does not go into detail on the extent of the problem, but only notes that it occurs “in some scenarios and in some game hardware configurations”.
And if you are experiencing poor frame rates or other issues while playing the game, there could be several reasons why this could happen, but if you are a Windows 11 user, you can try to improve your gaming experience in this simple enough way first.
Before we start disabling things, be aware that Microsoft recommends re-enabling these settings later, adding, “If it’s off, your device may be vulnerable to threats.” If you want to film it regardless of Microsoft’s warnings, here’s how to do it.
How to disable memory integrity and VMP
To turn off memory integrity, go to the Start menu by pressing the Windows key and then type “Core Isolation” in the taskbar.
Select it when it appears and when you are on that page, it turns off memory integrity.
Microsoft recommends restarting the device afterwards.
Disabling VMP is just as simple. Again, go to the Start menu and type the search “Turn Windows features on or off”.
When you are in the Windows Features section, find and uncheck the Virtual Machine Platform.
Press OK to finalize these changes and restart your computer.
If you don’t see any benefit in turning off these two settings, it’s best to keep them turned on.
However, if you are not happy with the frame rates, we have a how-to guide that can help you with some other ideas for you to try.
