ROMA – Reborn from a motorcycle accident that left him quadriplegic in 2006: Vittorio Menditto found the way to transform his destiny in art, becoming an appreciated contemporary Italian artist, whose extraordinary journey is a testimony to the transformative power of art.
Art in the hospital. After the accident, during his hospitalization in the Montecatone hospital in Imola, Vittorio Menditto met the painter Vincenzo Gualtieri. And there came the turning point: Gualtieri, perceiving his artistic potential, encouraged him to explore the world of painting by experimenting with the use of a helmet designed for the computer, in which however he replaced the aluminum stem with a brush. In this way, Vittorio can start creating despite his physical limitations.
Painting with your head. The helmet thus becomes the symbol of Vittorio’s determination, of his ability to overcome barriers: a tool that allows him to freely express his creativity, to transform his new condition into a unique art form, to explore the universe of abstraction, an area in which he stands out for his originality and expressive power. Vittorio’s artistic path evolves over the years, influenced by his personal experiences and the challenges he faces, but always with one constant: abstraction and the bold use of color to express deep and complex emotions.
The reckless use of color. Vittorio’s bold use of color does not go unnoticed in the art world: his works become open windows onto his inner world, a universal language capable of overcoming linguistic and cultural barriers. His works begin to receive widespread acclaim abroad as well and Vittorio emerges in the panorama of contemporary art by exhibiting in various galleries and fairs, fromInternational Contemporary Art Expo of Trezzo, at the Fiera Arte Padova at Arte e Moda Milano.
From the Venice Biennale to China. 2017 is an important year: Vittorio exhibits his works at Palazzo Zenobbio, during the Venice Art Biennale. The following year, in 2018, he was chosen as Italy’s representative at the 17th International EXPO of China, in the pavilion dedicated to contemporary art. Since this year he has become an integral part of the Omnium artistic project and his works are on permanent display in Venice, in the province of Udine, at the Boffi Showroom and The Bay Gallery in Shenzhen, at the Opsis Design Studios and at the Donxuan Auction Galleries in Shanghai.
A symbol of hope. Vittorio is not just an artist, but a symbol of hope and resilience for many: his story tells how it is possible to transform adversity into opportunities and how art is not only a means of personal expression, but also a powerful message about capabilities of the human being.
