Disability, the States General of the association centered on neurodevelopmental disorders: the “Tuttinclusi” project and the “After us” policies

ROMA – The appointments with the States General on intellectual disabilities and neurodevelopmental disorders continue: just one week after the meeting relating to the Lazio region, yesterday 30 October there was an event in Florence to take stock of the Tuscany region. Organized by Anffas of the Region and by the local associations present in the area. “Collaboration, co-planning, co-programming, working in synergy, enforceability of rights, need for concrete resources, Life Project and direct participation of people with intellectual disabilities and neurodevelopmental disorders”, we read in a document released by the Association . Therefore, these continue to be the key words that follow one another in the various events of the States General, highlighted, in fact, also in the meeting in Florence in the Salone dei Cinquecento of Palazzo Vecchio with around 160 people in addition to those who followed online via the Zoom platform.

The difference between inclusion and integration. But among the themes that, more generally, Anffas brings to the attention of the public, there is that of the inclusion of people with disabilities which – it is reiterated on several occasions – involves first of all a great cultural revolution. “Unlike the model based on integration, unfortunately still strongly present in our system – we read in the documents released by the Association – the inclusive model requires that the contexts must adapt, modify and shape themselves to allow each person, with the right and adequate supports, to be able to live in conditions of equal opportunities with other citizens without suffering discrimination based on disability. “It is therefore about human rights and the new person-centred model, paradigms that are fully found in the disability reform law and its implementing decrees”.

The title of the project: “All inclusive”. Hence the title of the project – presented last September – not surprisingly identified with All includedprecisely because it touches on four dedicated development axes and will be able to contribute to creating and increasingly consolidating the inclusive model to which Anffas everything is inspired”, says Roberto Speziale, national president of Anffas. This is a network project in which numerous associative structures are involved Anffas of the national territory and of Third Sector entities external ad Anffas but with whom the organism collaborates to pursue its objectives.

Another topic on which theAnffas tends to bring to the attention of public opinion is the “After us”, that is, attention to what politics does (or does not do) for disabilities compared to when there is a lack of family support for a person with neurodevelopmental disorders. There Anffas National Foundation with the project “During and After Us” – Philanthropic Organization – was founded in 1984 to guarantee people with disabilities and families a peaceful future and the best possible quality of life, enabling them to always be able to choose how, where and with whom to live, without ever being adapted to a specific accommodation against one’s will. This is the main mission of the Anffas National Foundation, conceived as “a good work towards others for a charitable purpose to show solidarity towards the less fortunate, a disposition of mind and industrious effort to promote their well-being and happiness”. But think about the “After Us” also means thinking about achieving “During Us”, structures and services suitable for people with disabilities, which always follow and respect their wishes and will to guarantee the best possible Quality of Life and in such a way that they can realize their life project.
