Offenbach am Main – The winter in Hesse has begun, and it gives people in Darmstadt Frankfurt and Kassel on Friday and on the weekend bad weather with snow and rain. Drivers should be careful, there is a risk of ice.

Friday in Hesse will be wintry cold with maximum temperatures of 1 to 4 degrees. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), the values ​​in the mountains are only “around -1 degrees”, according to the forecast by the meteorologists from Offenbach am Main.

In addition, a moderate to fresh wind is blowing, which at higher altitudes can swell to strong and sometimes stormy gusts. The wind only decreases in the evening.

According to the DWD, light snow will fall in north-west Hesse on Friday evening, which will fall as sleet in the lowlands. During the night, snowfall will come from the west across the state, which will turn into rain in the second half of the night in deep regions such as the Rhine-Main area.

The meteorologists warn: Freezing rain is just as possible as “slippery snow and ice” in certain areas.

The temperatures fall to +2 to -1 degrees on Saturday night, in the Hessian mountains to -1 to -3 degrees.

At the weekend, the weather in Frankfurt and the whole of Hesse will remain unchanged: According to the weather service forecast, Saturday and Sunday will be mostly cloudy. There will be rain and showers in some areas, with precipitation coming down as snow at higher elevations. Sleet is also possible.

Temperatures remain cool, Saturday 4 to 7 degrees, Sunday 3 to 6 degrees in the lowlands. In the higher mountains, however, temperatures remain around 0 degrees.

Light frost is possible at night, the meteorologists expressly point out the risk of ice hin.

According to the weather service, Monday also begins very cloudy and cold and wet – the dingy weather in Hesse continues.
