NEW YORK (Dagbladet): After the first round of elections in the constituency near Dallas and Fort Worth in Texas on Saturday, it became clear that the Republican Susan Wright will go on to a second round of elections against the other Republican candidate Jake Ellzey.
The election comes after Wright’s husband and congressional representative, Ron Wright, died of corona in February. Former United States President Donald Trump has given his support to Susan Wright.
The election is therefore seen as one of the first tests of how strong Trump still has grip on the Republican Party. The result may indicate that this is the case.

Automatic dialing
But in the run-up to the election campaign, Susan Wright has also been forced to ask the FBI to investigate who is behind automatic calls to voters with allegations that she has “killed” her husband, reports Politico.
The automatic phone call takes place from a hidden number. A female voice says Wright “killed her husband” and that she is now “running for Congress to cover it.” The woman’s voice then claims that Wright “took out a life insurance policy for her husband of $ 1 million six months before he died.” The voice then claims that Wright “tearfully admitted to a nurse that she had intentionally contracted the coronavirus”, the website writes.
Ron Wright became the first member of Congress to die of corona on February 7 this year. He suffered from lung cancer when he became infected.
– Sewage
It is still not known who is behind the phone call.
– It’s illegal, immoral and wrong. There is no sewer that is too deep for some politicians to sink to the bottom, Wright said in a statement, according to Politico.
Despite the shocking campaign strategy, Wright won the first round by 19 percent. Ellzey was next with 13.8 percent, writes The Guardian.

Thus, there will be two Republicans in the second round of elections. The Democrat who did the best, Jana Lynne Sanchez, received 13.4 percent of the vote, 354 fewer than Ellzey.
Several of Wright’s opponents are reacting strongly to the phone call.
– This is horrible. It is incredible that someone will sink so low, Ellzey says to Politico.
The only anti-Trump candidate among Republicans, Michael Wood, ended up far away with 3 percent of the vote.
After Wright still won the first round, Trump was among the congratulators. At the same time, he makes sure to take credit for the result.
– Congratulations to Susan Wright on her great progress yesterday. Susan made progress after I gave her support last week. Her wonderful husband looks down on us and is very proud of her, Trump writes in one press release Sunday.
– Thank you, President Trump! #MAGA, Wright himself writes Twitter.
No date has yet been set for the second round of elections.
