The mushroom championship led by nature enthusiasts Valda can be compared to a sport that is not found anywhere else in the world. She has managed to make mushrooming not just an entertainment event, but a nationwide event. Mushrooms from all over Latvia come to her every autumn, similarly to Zilākalns Marta. This year, the Mushroom Championship celebrates its 30th anniversary, with Valda having the choice to pass it on or continue as it does every year.
Using the image of a Latvian mushroom, the show plays with today’s human behavioral habits, reflecting on the time in which we live, when everything has to be connected and caught, also running into the forest, grabbing a mushroom, taking a photo and throwing it on the Internet or eating.
The performance “Mushrooming Championship 2021” is a part of the project “New Change”, within which DDT, Ģertrūdes Street Theater, Rēzekne Theater “Joriks” and Valmiera Drama Theater support the entry of a new generation of performing artists in Latvia. The director of the play and the author of the idea is Ilze Bloka, her drama was created by Madara Rutkēviča, while the main role is played by actress Indra Burkovska.
Viewers are invited to attend the mushroom championship on November 16, but the theater reminds that when coming to the show, they will be asked to use a mouth and nose mask, present a Covid-19 green certificate, as well as an identity document. More information: www.dirtydealteatro.lv
