Dirt 5 has 120fps option on Xbox Series X – Gaming – News

DiRT 5 supports 120fps when played on Xbox Series X. The racing game was part of a presentation on Thursday that announced new games, with accompanying trailers of what the titles will look like on the Xbox Series X console.

After the publication of the trailers made Robert Karp of developer Codemasters Cheshire announced that DiRT 5 can be played not only at 4k resolution and at 60fps on the Xbox Series X, but also at 120fps. This is the first title known to be officially confirmed to support this option. Microsoft confirms 120fps support with DiRT 5; on a special page the company shows the games presented on Thursday and only the racing game specifically shows 120fps.

Karp went on to discuss the possibilities that the Xbox Series X offers as a console, but he did not provide any further explanation about the support of 120fps. As a result, it is still unknown whether the 120fps setting is accompanied by a lower resolution and whether it scales dynamically in that case. In theory, 4k and 120fps is also possible, but then the level of detail and certain effects will probably be scaled back and forth.

The general support of 120fps is not an exclusive feature of the Xbox Series X. The PlayStation 5 also gets that possibility. It is as yet unknown whether DiRT 5 will also have the 120fps option on the PS5. Not all owners of these consoles will be able to play games with the combination of 4k and 120fps. This also requires a TV with HDMI 2.1. The majority of current televisions go no further than HDMI 2.0, which means 4k and 60fps is the limit. HDMI 2.0 does not exclude 120fps; Via internal apps, TVs with suitable panels can simply achieve 120fps and that can also be done with external devices connected via HDMI, but then no 4k resolution is possible.

An exact release date of DiRT 5 is still unknown, but the racing game will be out in October anyway and will also be available for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
