Diris Lima Begins Monkeypox Vaccination for HIV-Infected People | News

The Ministry of Health (MINSA) has started the monkeypox vaccination process for people living with HIV, from the Mother Teresa of Calcutta Health Center in El Agustino district.

The director general of the Directorate of Integrated Health Networks (Diris) East Lima, Max Bendezú, reported that the institution was the venue for the launch of this process which will take place in hospitals and health centers.

He specified it the goal is to vaccinate 1,435 people affected by HIV/AIDS in Lima, of which 405 will be in the first level of care, 965 at Hipólito Unanue Hospital; 55 at the José Agurto Tello Hospital; and 10 at the Huaycán hospital. “The vaccination should end on November 30,” he said.

Bendezú recalled that the simian vaccine is applied to the forearm, the patient must receive two doses, the second being applied 28 days after receiving the first. The vaccine is safe, free and extremely important for the prevention of this disease..

Vaccination will also continue in the health centers of the Universal Cooperative in Santa Anita, Micaela Bastidas in Ate and Chancas in Andahuaylas.

The coordinator of Regional Health Strategy for HIV and Hepatitis B and C by Diris East Lima, Flor Domínguezconfirmed that the monkeypox vaccine is aimed at all HIV-infected patients, who will be able to access antiretroviral treatment centers (ART) for vaccination after medical evaluation.
