The Lionsgate company and director Antoine Fuqua, who directed Emancipation, starring Will Smith, will make a biopic of the life of Michael Jackson, which will be titled Michael, as confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.
“The first films of my career were music videos, and I still feel that combining film and music is a deep part of who I am.
“To me, there is no artist with the power, charisma and sheer musical genius of Michael Jackson. I was influenced to make music videos by seeing his work: the first black artist to play to heavy rotation on MTV. His music and those images are part of my world view, and the opportunity to tell his story on screen alongside his music was irresistible,” Fuqua said in a statement.
ALL ABOUT HIS LIFE
According to Lionsgate, the film will address all aspects of Jackson’s life, although it is not clear how they will achieve this due to the many controversies involving the “King of Pop”, as it will be made in conjunction with his estate, which has defended him from various accusations.
Likewise, the production company will take charge of the national distribution of Michael and will look for an international partner.
Also Graham King, biopics expert and producer of Bohemian Rhapsody along with John Branca and John McClain, who are co-executors of Michael Jackson’s estate, will produce the film. The script will be in charge of John Logan.
