Directors discuss new game and reception of Brazilians

A SEGA and Amplitude Studios announced Endless Dungeon, a tactical action roguelite from the Endless universe, and the Digital Look spoke with two directors of the game.

Romain de Waubert, Creative Director and Studio Head of Endless Dungeon, and Jean-Maxime Moris, Creative Director of the game, presented this new adventure of the great Endless franchise, which, they highlight, has a stronger action element than the previous ones. other games we’ve seen so far in this universe.

“It’s more action-oriented than a lot of the other games. But he maintains a common element, which is very important to us. It’s the strategy game, it’s a tactical game. It’s all about being smart in action. It’s all about thinking,” said Waubert. “It’s also more fun when you have friends with you – all of our games are always multiplayer, but it’s the first time we’ve thought of multiplayer at the heart of the game,” he continued.

The decision to put more action into the Endless franchise with Endless Dungeon, according to Jean-Maxime Moris, revolves around two factors. “The first is that we wanted to bring co-op to the game from day one in an endless dungeon and expand on the love that multiplayer in Dungeon of the Endless received when it first launched,” he explained. “We thought, ‘Let’s try to really be in direct control of the characters using a controller and take the experience forward. With more control and more pressure on the decisions you have to make to really promote that emotion and that tension between players.”

The other point highlighted by him is more focused on what the audience wants. “It turns out that it’s also something that console gamers really enjoy, action-oriented titles. So it’s an evolution of our recipe and I think a way for us to find our console audience in their home.”

This fact that the game will be coming to consoles and PCs is also something that Moris commented, noting that it is something new for the team “This is very new for us too. The Endless universe was basically born into the PC ecosystem, and now this is a game that’s going to reach a lot more people and I think that’s pretty amazing.”

Of course, the duo also talked about Brazil, and the reception and passion that fans here have for games. Romain de Waubert cited a situation that occurred at the launch of another SEGA game, Humankind.

“We did a trailer for the announcement of the game, the launch of the game, and we had two astronauts fighting on the moon. And one had the Brazilian flag, and the other had the US flag. And who was winning was the Brazilian astronaut. And at the launch of the game we had a huge spike in spectators and activity in Brazil. And it took days to realize why there was such a big spike, you know? It made a lot of noise around there. That’s why we are localizing our games in Portuguese from Brazil,” he stated. “It’s one of our great communities.”
