/ world today news/ Several hundred protesters, mostly cultural figures, famous directors, actors, musicians, protested in the center of Sofia against the appointment of Slavi Binev as the chairman of the parliamentary committee on culture and media.
At 2 p.m. theatergoers, cinemagoers, musicians, writers and other intellectuals gathered in the “Crystal” kindergarten to express their disagreement with the management of cultural institutions and, above all, with the appointment of Slavi Binev to the Culture Committee in the National Assembly. After the crowd almost completely filled the iconic “Crystal” kindergarten, the actor Yosif Sarchadzhiev, together with Vladimir Lyutskanov, led the people to the parliament with appeals: “Come, everyone with me.” Upon arriving in front of the parliament, the actor clenched his fist, raised his hand in the air and declared: “In strength and faith, God is with us. Oh Lord, help us!”.
This is a repetition of what happened a year and a half ago, that is, there is no difference between the appointment of Delyan Peevski in DANS and the appointment of Slavcho Binev as head of the culture and media commission, Vladimir Lyutskanov, director of the Youth Theater, told BGNES.
Lyutskanov also said that they went out today because they wanted “Slavcho Binev to rest”. “Let him go and do what comes to him, which is to simplify the nation, and leave us alone. I think there are more worthy people to deal with this culture commission, if it is needed at all committee on culture,” Lyutskanov said.
Regarding Binev’s statement yesterday that he is the most prepared to head this commission, the director of the Youth Theater commented: “A person with such a built body obviously has training, he has spent a lot of time in the gym, no one can deny him this preparation”. Vladi Lyutskanov also said that the appointment of Binev is an absolutely logical conclusion of everything that the rulers are doing in the field of culture and no one should be surprised.
Alexander Morfov was adamant that he had no common topics to discuss with Slavi Binev. “For me, this is a paradoxical person, but in our paradoxical country everything is possible. I think that the level he could reach is the manager of a swimming pool, nothing more,” commented the director, after Binev said yesterday that he was most prepared for the post of chairman of the committee on culture and media.
Yesterday, our famous director announced that he was leaving the “Ivan Vazov” National Theater, as a sign of protest against the government, against Slavi Binev, against Vezhdi Rashidov. “It’s his personal decision,” Morfov said of his decision to leave the theater, explaining that he’s not pushing anyone to follow in his footsteps. “We have already been brought there, at least my personal emotional state can no longer bear all this”.
That’s the only way I could protest. Culture is placed in an extremely difficult situation, it has never been a priority for Bulgaria. The appointment of persons like this person is insulting, humiliating and a joke with the culture of Bulgaria,” said the beloved director. According to him, today’s protest is the beginning and maybe people who are dissatisfied with what is happening in the country will become more. And the director of “Hushov” agreed with the comparison between the election of Slavi Binev and the election a year and a half ago of Delyan Peevski as head of DANS.
