Soviet and Russian actor, screenwriter and director Vladimir Mensov died at the age of 81. In 1981, he won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film for his film Moscow Doesn’t Believe in Tears. He has now succumbed to the effects of coronavirus infection.
The team of the Russian film studio Mosfilm expressed its condolences to colleagues, family and friends. “We lost our dear friend, a Mosfilm worker who dedicated all his creative powers and significant talent to his native film studio, a truly popular director whose wonderful films are known and loved by millions of people,” Mosfilm said.
In addition to directing, including the Oscar-winning film Love and Pigeons and Širli-Myrli, Meňšov also worked as an actor. He appeared in the hits Night Watch, Daily Watch and Legend 17, among others.
The last act of opportunity was given to him last year in the television film Scream of Silence (Scream of Silence) about the blockade of Leningrad.
