Director Valters Sīlis has staged the play “Biography. Game »/ Article

The original version of the play was written in 1968, but the 1984 version was used for the production, in which the author made the work more compact and clear. The show will also take place in the 1960s.

The main character of the play – Hannes Kīrmanis – is given a unique opportunity to return to any point in his life to change his biography and live a completely different life. And he is sure he wants to live without his wife Antoinette, with whom he has spent 7 years. How will this decision affect Kirman? What else will he have to give up?

And after all, does a different life always mean a better life, and are we ready to give up everything we’ve experienced because of what we think is a mistake?

“This is a rather classic story of a fiction story, but Max Frisch’s play has little connection with fiction. It is more of a theatrical play about a person’s life,” said director Valters Sīlis. “The work is designed to be more reminiscent of a theatrical rehearsal process, in which each scene is tried and retried several times until the most appropriate version of the scene is found and reaches the audience.

Work is not about traveling in time, but about being able to look back and analyze your life.

It is this balance between the realism in the relationship between the characters in the play and the form of the work that transcends the boundaries of a realistic dramatic play that is an interesting challenge in the process of staging the work. This unique form – combined with an emotionally powerful story – makes it exciting to perform today. “

Actors – Rolands Beķeris, Anete Berķe, Gatis Maliks, Edgars Ozoliņš and Madara Kalna take part in the performance.

Along with the directors’ performance, the artist Uģis Bērziņš and the light artist Toms Streilis also create.

Maks Frišs is one of the most important authors writing in German, his novels are well known in Latvia, and the plays have been little staged. “Biography. The Game” is staged for the first time, thus the first translation of Inga Liniņa has been made.

The theater reminds that it is possible to visit the theater in person only for those spectators who have been vaccinated against Covid-19, as well as for those spectators who have become ill with Covid-19. Upon arrival at the theater, spectators will be required to present an entrance ticket with a valid passport or ID card and a Covid-19 certificate. The entrance ticket will be valid only together with the said certificate and identity document. Both in the theater and throughout the show, the audience must use the mask properly, covering both the nose and the mouth.
