Director Peter Elbers of the Limburg regional broadcaster L1 has been placed on non-active status. The broadcaster’s Supervisory Board (RvC) announced this in a short statement today, reports 1Limburg.
Since Elbers took office as director of L1 in September, there has been a tense atmosphere within the broadcaster. He mainly got into trouble with the editors because of his proposal for a new privacy regulation, which stated, among other things, that hidden cameras could be installed. The proposal fell completely wrong and was revised by Elbers himself in February withdrawn.
A breach of trust between staff and works council on the one hand and Elbers and Supervisory Board on the other led to leidde a case at the Enterprise Chamber. He decided to investigate the internal problems at L1. In addition to Elbers, a second director was also appointed and the supervisory board was expanded with a fourth supervisory director with a casting vote.
Future
The Enterprise Chamber also concluded that so far it had not been shown that Elbers had contributed to the “escalation of internal relations”, and that he could therefore continue to work.
It has not been disclosed why Elbers has now been suspended. The Supervisory Board will discuss his future with the organization with Elbers.
