The 55-year-old man from Almere was arrested at the end of June 2021, but was allowed to await further investigation in freedom if he had no contact with children.
New arrest
A new arrest followed in February 2022 because he allegedly broke this condition. The man was director of Kanjer Wens, a foundation that made the wishes of seriously ill children come true.
The abuse partly took place within his work as director of the foundation. “It is almost impossible to be more vulnerable and yet the suspect has unleashed his sexual lust on this group of children,” the Public Prosecution Service previously stated.
‘Perverseling’
The public prosecutor in the case emphasizes during the substantive hearing that the parents of the children are also victims. “If your child is seriously ill, you want to take care of your child as best as possible, but you also want to ensure that your other child is not deprived of anything. When a saving angel then comes in, who will give your children the day of their lives can deliver’, then as parents you grab it with both hands. Not knowing that you are handing your child to a pervert on a silver platter.”
Foundation closed down
The supervisory board and board of Kanjer Wens decided to close down the foundation after V.’s second arrest. “We have very little confidence that Kanjer Wens Nederland will ever become what it is now again,” they wrote to their volunteers.
