The director of a high-security prison in Guatemala, located inside a military barracks, was shot dead this Saturday by an unknown person, according to various official sources.
The armed attack took place this Saturday morning on a street in the center of Guatemala City, where Édwin David Patzán González, 32, lost his life, according to the rescue forces.

Patzán González was the director of the Matamoros prison, located in the military barracks of the same name, located in the center of the capital of the Central American country.
He Ministry of the Interiorin charge of the Penitentiary System, expressed his regret and condolences for the death of the official, allegedly at the hands of a single hitman.
The Municipal Fire Department detailed that Patzán González received “several” shot with a firearm and, despite being transferred to a nearby hospital, he died due to the severity of his injuries.
In 2022, Guatemala recorded 4,263 homicides, 4.5% more than in 2021, according to data from the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif).
On October 7, eight people, including three women, were murdered in a bar in the north of Guatemala City.
