Suspicions of inappropriate behavior towards Reichelt were raised a few weeks ago, through a satirical program on public television ZDF, presented by the popular moderator Jan Böhmermann. These accusations were then echoed by media such as The mirror, the country’s leading political weekly.
Investigations focus on suspected cases of abuse of power, intimidation and harassment, according to Spiegel. Bild’s management is committed to “Scrupulous examination” of these accusations, a matter which he entrusted to a lawyer.
“It will be investigated in all directions to ensure the credibility and integrity of all parties involved,” said the press group. His statement does not provide further details, claiming the case is subject to to an ongoing investigation.
Reichelt, 40, took over the management of Bild, the most widely read newspaper in Germany in 2017, with around eight and a half million readers.
