Director of Bulgarian Security Service Resigns Amid Ministry Conflict

The director of the Security Service Senior Commissioner Kaloyan Miltenov has resigned, PIK learned exclusively from its sources in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Miltenov has submitted an application for final departure from the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Miltenov married one of the trusted people of the former Interior Minister Boyko Rashkov.

According to unconfirmed official information, the reason for his resignation is yesterday’s reaction of the new Minister of Internal Affairs, Kalin Stoyanov, who canceled the closure of two of the sectors in the “Specialized Police Forces” department and the reassignment of some of the employees to the assistance of the district administrations in the city of Sofia.

It is no secret to anyone from the Ministry of Internal Affairs system that this is precisely the division from which the career of the former Minister of Internal Affairs and current GERB MP Mladen Marinov began.

Miltenov categorically refused to take another position in the system because of his disagreements with the new minister.

Senior Commissioner Zhivko Kotsev, who has been in charge of the police of the Sofia region for two years, was appointed head of the SDVR, on the personal recommendations of General Atanas Atanasov from the DSB.

Zhivko Kotsev made an enviable professional career during the time of Tsvetan Tsvetanov as Minister of Internal Affairs, where he successively rose from the head of 04 RU in Sofia to the director of the ODMVR of Veliko Tarnovo and to the deputy director of the SDVR.
