Last Wednesday (5th), Jeff Ross, ex-Bend Studio and director of Days Gone, complained that his game did not have the same “acclaim” from Ghost of Tsushima by conquering 8 million sales (PS4). This was at the time when he was still part of the studio. Despite everyone taking the number as official, the dev said that his source came from an external website, “Gamestat”.
The revelation was made in canal do YouTube from the creator of God of War, David Jaffe. The site — now defunct — tracked trophy data to try to calculate a rough number of players on a given title.
Therefore, the count is not accurate and must represent a number well away from the official one. For example, used copies, the PS Plus version, and rentals can all contribute to Days Gone’s 9 million “sales” figure — 1 million more on PC.
Ross also revealed that it wasn’t PlayStation’s top management who turned down a Days Gone sequel. According to him, the heads of Bend Studio themselves barred a continuation due to the number of commercializations and reception. On his Twitter, the dev even mentioned a “local management”. Everyone believed that it would be a representative of Sony, but this is not the case.
The director’s statements left the story a little more confused. For now, it is not possible to be sure of the exact amount of sales of the game. For this, the Japanese company would need to reveal the official data.
Days Gone Director Wanted to Make Resistance Open-World
In the same conversation, Ross revealed that PlayStation reached out to him for ideas for new projects. He proposed the return of Resistance in an open world format, but the company did not accept it. Find out more here!
