This is the second time that director Hong has received the Silver Bear Grand Jury Award since 2022, when he won the Silver Bear Grand Jury Award for ‘A Novelist’s Film.’ Director Hong is the first and still the only Korean director to receive the Silver Bear Award.

Director Hong Sang-soo said on the awards stage, “I am grateful to the jury,” and “I don’t know what they saw in my film. I’m curious.”

The Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize at the Berlin Film Festival is the second honor after the Golden Bear Award for the best film. With this award, Director Hong set a record of advancing to the competition section of the Berlin International Film Festival seven times, including winning the Grand Jury Prize at the Silver Bear Award twice, and winning the Silver Bear Award, the best picture in each category, a total of five times.

Director Hong received the Silver Bear Award for Best Screenplay for ‘Introduction’ in 2021, the Silver Bear Award for Best Director for ‘The Woman Who Ran’ in 2020, and Kim Min-hee received the Silver Bear Award for Best Actress for ‘On the Beach at Night Alone’ in 2017.

‘A Traveler’s Need’ is director Hong’s 31st feature film and stars French actress Isabelle Huppert, who won the Best Actress Award twice at the Cannes Film Festival. This is the third collaboration between Isabelle Huppert and director Hong, following ‘In Another Country’ in 2012 and ‘Claire’s Camera’ in 2018. Actress Kim Min-hee was named as the production manager of Lee Woo’s ‘Need for a Traveler’ in director Hong’s previous work.

At the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, the highest award, the Golden Bear, was awarded to ‘Dahomey’, directed by French director Mati Diop, and the film ‘It’s Okay, It’s Okay!’, directed by Korean director Kim Hye-young, won the Generation K Plus Crystal Bear Award.
