Director Hints at Possible Spin-Off for ‘Ted Lasso’ in Interview

In an interview with the American site The Hollywood Reporter, director Declan Lowney hinted that a spin-off of “Ted Lasso” remained a possibility. But that patience was recommended for now.

The potential is obvious. Launched in August 2020 on Apple TV+, before establishing itself as one of the essential series on the streaming platform, “Ted Lasso” came to a conclusion at the end of its third season, the last episode of which aired on May 31. Heartbreaking for fans, who would have liked to continue following the adventures of this American football coach who became coach of a modest Premier League club, AFC Richmond, played by Jason Sudeikis. And of all the secondary characters who revolve around him.

If the series has reached its conclusion, Apple TV + has not yet given any indication of potential spin-offs that would extend the universe of Ted Lasso over time. Asked about this by the American site The Hollywood Reporterdirector Declan Lowney – present behind the camera since the first season and who is also a producer – indicated that new projects could see the light of day.

“Everyone knew it was the end, but only for a time. It will probably take 2 or 3 years before something happens – if ever – in order to tie and conclude all the satellite stories as it should, “he says. Remarks that echo those made a few months earlier by comedian Jason Sudeikis, who plays the main character of the series, in the podcast “Fly on the Wall“, in which he had himself mentioned the possibility of spin-offs. But in a different form.

“It could be a book, or maybe episode-centric podcasts to provide audio commentary… We talk about multiple things, multiple themes. It would help explain the series in a more cerebral way than I would be able to. So yes, I think there are opportunities for spin-offs,” he announced.
