Senkov said that he received the invitation to become the artistic director of the National Theater a month ago. Evaluating the benefits and losses, he estimated that the benefits are much more and, in Senkov’s opinion, it would be strange to refuse such an offer.
The new artistic director of the National Theater stated that it is a great honor to hold this position. In addition, he has a long history with the theater, as 16 Senkov productions have been staged at the National Theatre.
Since this is Senkov’s first working day in his new position, he emphasized that it is still too early to talk about the upcoming changes, as the upcoming season is already planned and ready. He pointed out that the National Theatre, respecting traditions, has always been interested in Latvian culture, literature and original Latvian dramaturgy, and Senkovs plans to promote this as well. Also, the artistic director of the theater intends to promote the development of young artists and the involvement of young directors and playwrights.
Senkov also said that he enters the theater with his creative team, which consists of movement artist Elīna Gediņa, musician and composer Edgars Mākens. Set designer Reinis Suhanovs will also work in Senkov’s team.
