Director Audrey Diwan, Golden Lion in Venice for “L’Événement”, announced the start of filming on the remake of “Emmanuelle”, a famous French erotic film from the 1980s.
It turns. The remake of “Emmanuelle” is launched. Its director Audrey Diwan announced it on her networks this Monday, October 9. “Excitement is the word. Emmanuelle. Day 1”, posted the winner of the Golden Lion in 2021 for “L’Événement”, a drama adapted from Annie Ernaux’s novel on abortion.
The director today kicked off her adaptation of Emmanuelle Arsan’s erotic novel, brought to the screen for the first time in 1974 by Just Jenkins, with Sylvia Kristel in the title role of this erotic film cult, which was seen at the time by no less than 9 million people.
This new version, co-scripted by Rebecca Zlotowski (Belle Epine, Grand central, An easy girl, The children of others) will be played by actress Noémie Merlant (Portrait of a young girl on fire), awarded this year’s César de la Best Supporting Actress for her performance in “The Innocent.”
Her name was announced last February by Audrey Diwan, after the director first thought of working with Léa Seydoux. With this remake, she intends to unveil a contemporary version of Emmanuelle Arsan’s story, as she explained to Deadline in February: “My film will take place in the present day, Emmanuelle is a woman who is close to my age”, explained Audrey Diwan, 47 years old.
And to specify that the “film will take place in Hong Kong, in the luxury hotel where she works. I like the idea of these corridors where my characters brush past each other, meet each other, look for each other.
For now, this new adaptation does not yet have a release date.
