Directions to Beijing: No joint photos, no walks on board

The plane with the largest part of the expedition to the Beijing Winter Olympics will depart from Terminal 1 at Prague Airport tomorrow. In Beijing, the sports director of the Czech Olympic Committee and the head of the Olympic mission, Martin Doktor, are already on the spot. He described to the journalists what kind of background is prepared for athletes in China.

“The village looks nice. It is a housing estate, but for example apartments, flats are specifically here in Beijing spacious, nice. Each is accommodated alone in the room, the apartments are two or four. In mountain villages it is a bit smaller, there it is with accommodation on the edge, but they are also nice new buildings. It will depend on how it all works, “said Martin Doktor directly from the Chinese capital. He added that the Chinese have a lot of people there for everything.

The assistants are in respirators and have shields, cleaning crews, and other workers usually walk in white spacesuits covered with a shield.

He also described how the Chinese are protecting themselves against Covid-19, just as in Tokyo it goes without saying that everyone wears respirators, and when someone takes it off for a while, they immediately have a person asking them to deploy.

“All of our assistants are in respirators and have shields, cleaning crews, and other staff usually walk in white spacesuits covered with a shield,” the Doctor described what it looks like at the Winter Olympics venue.

How does the WWTP want to prevent athletes from becoming infected? They rely on vaccinations, three pre-departure tests, their own aircraft and strict hygiene measures. Athletes and escorts also received detailed guides on how to behave before and during the trip.

“The organizers have laid down rules that, in principle, everyone must be vaccinated. He who is not vaccinated does not eat. PCR tests are required 96 and 72 hours before departure. We agreed with the National Laboratory and the Prague Hygiene that we would do another test, which will be one hour before entering the airport, “outlined the chairman of the WWTP Kejval.

The athletes will not fly the government special, but the Korean Air plane, which will manage the journey without a stopover. About 160 people will fly on the plane. The team will be divided so that, for example, only half of the passengers take off their respirators at a time.

No joint selfie, no conversations

Strict rules also apply to movement at the airport. The WWTP recommends minimizing physical contact with people. They should not shake hands, hug each other, keep spacing of 1.5 to 2 meters and do not take any joint photos.

The charter with the largest part of the expedition will depart on Thursday 27 January 2022 from Terminal 1 of Prague’s Václav Havel Airport.

Barbora Žehanová, spokesperson of the Czech Olympic Committee

The Czech Olympic Committee also announced that it would have to reduce contact between journalists and athletes on the day of departure as much as possible due to the bad epidemiological situation. “The charter with the largest part of the expedition will depart on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from Terminal 1 of Prague’s Václav Havel Airport, which is very helpful in organizing all measures and passing the expedition to the plane as quickly as possible. We understand that even in connection with the problematic departure of the expedition to Tokyo last summer, this is a very monitored flight, “said WWTP spokeswoman Barbora Žehanová.

Editors are therefore asked to send at most cameramen or photographers. Traditional pre-flight interviews with athletes are prohibited. “It is one of the measures to minimize the risk of coronavirus infections with our Olympians,” Žehanová explained.

The WWTP wants to prevent this from happening again last year problemswhen several athletes became infected with covid on a flight to the Olympics in Tokyo and they had a bad Olympics because of it, because they either did not enter the tournament or only partially. Because of this, they also suffered financial damage and later demanded compensation.

How to behave on a plane

– The organization of the flight and all matters on board are the responsibility of the airline, so follow the crew’s instructions without reservation.

– Wear a respirator throughout the flight – except for the time strictly necessary for refreshments. You will receive an FFP3 respirator in the departure hall, or it is advisable to change FFP2 respirators every four hours during the flight. Under no circumstances leave used respirators lying around, store them in a resealable bag or hand them over to the crew.

– Sessions are scheduled on the aircraft in smaller groups of people or implementation teams that are in almost constant contact with each other.

– Free rows of seats will be planned between the groups, in which you do not sit under any circumstances.

– Be careful when eating and drinking, as you will not have a respirator on at this time. Food and drink will be served in predetermined groups. Disinfect your hands before and after meals.

– If you go to the toilet, then have a respirator properly fitted at all times, wash and disinfect your hands after the toilet. There will be reserved toilets for individual groups on board. Please follow this division.

– Do not walk on the plane, do not go to friends from other groups – stay in place.

– Get off the plane in small groups, depending on how you sat on the plane.

According to the chairman of the WWTP, Jiří Kejval, a significant part of the expedition also has a booster, ie the third dose of vaccination. “We don’t have the final number yet, but we think about 50 percent of all people who go there will have third rations. For those who do not have third doses, we try to have antibodies checked. About 150 people had it done, “said Kejval.
