Due to the influence of the 2022 World Cup, the 2022/2023 season in Europe ends later than usual. However, the transfer market has not changed much. Each tournament will have a different market opening time, but not too much.
The Premier League once closed the summer transfer market on the opening day of the season – usually in the first half of August, and felt inadequate when other major European markets remained open. The very next year, they “corrected the mistake” and brought the transfer deadline back to normal.
In the latest announcement, the Premier League confirmed their summer 2023 transfer market will start on June 14 and close on September 1. Meanwhile, the winter market will start on January 1, 2024 and close on February 1, 2024.
The English Premier League confirmed it had discussed with other major leagues, including Spain, Italy, Germany and France to set a date for the closure of the aforementioned markets, thereby “ensuring harmony with Europe”.
