The last weekend was marked by snowfall. This weekend, two new snow episodes concern many regions of France, sometimes as far as the plains. The Weather Channel is mobilizing to keep you informed with our live monitoring of the situation.
This Sunday
A 12h, it’s snowing from Seine-Maritime to Orléanais. These snowfalls touch the Paris region. From Calvados to Orne, a slight warmth sets in and the snow begins to melt.
A 11h, under the disturbance, snowfall occurs from Normandy to Eure-et-Loir. this snow holds on to the ground, between Yvetot (76), Rouen (76), Evreux (27) and Le Mans (72). In Suisse Normande, the layer locally reaches 7 cm. These snowfalls progress towards Hauts-de-France and the Paris region to the Loire Valley. The first flakes are reported in Yvelines, the Chartres (28) and Romorantin (41) region. As the temperatures are negative, this snow immediately holds onto the ground.
#PRUDENCE ! The #snow arrives in the Paris region. Due to the frozen soils, this #snow will hold on the ground from the first heights with 1 to 3 cm on the ground. Sure #Paris and its little crown, keeping this snow on the ground will be more difficult. pic.twitter.com/AoVOYrNp9p

A 9h30, the disturbance continues to advance. Snowfall is observed from Mayenne to Calvados, to the coast. These snowfalls are weak but since they fall on frozen ground, this snow temporarily holds on the ground.
A 8h30, with the advance of the disturbance, it is snowing in Lower Normandy. This snow immediately sticks to the ground because of the negative temperatures. Ahead of this disturbance, beware of the general ice storm from Hauts-de-France to the Paris basin as far as Sologne towards the Grand Est.
With the arrival of a new disturbance, the 1st flakes of #snow can be seen in the interior of the #Brittany and the #Cotentin this morning. pic.twitter.com/rI04AF7Z6e

A 7h30, the new disturbance brings rains in Brittany. A few flakes mingle with the rain in the interior of Finistère. Inland, the cold is marked in Hauts-de-France in the center and east of the country with -5 to -1 ° C. Due to the wet soils linked to yesterday’s disturbance, the ice storm is widespread.
Warning to #ice ! After yesterday’s rains and snowfall, the #cold was accentuated this night because of the strong radiation. Result, the frosts are numerous and the ice is present on 3/4 of the country this morning. pic.twitter.com/8LsC5nLtoi

Yesterday saturday
A 17 h, the snowfalls have shifted to the east and now affect the Somme, the south of Nord Pas-de-Calais as well as the Ardennes where they will continue for part of the evening, while remaining low in intensity. In Normandy, the trend is improving with the return of calmer weather.
At 16, the return of occlusion linked to the depression goes back towards Hauts-de-France. While the situation is improving in Normandy with the gradual cessation of snowfall, conditions are deteriorating in Nord Pas de Calais with continued snowfall between Amiens and Valenciennes. The north of the Oise department is also affected. The snow cover reaches 3 cm in Amiens.
15 hours, the snowfall continues from Seine-Maritime to the Somme via the north of the Oise, between Amiens and Rouen. These snowfalls are of moderate intensity and hold on the ground with a layer of 1 to 2 cm and locally 4 cm on the highest plateaus. The country of Bray is more particularly exposed with a layer which reaches 6 cm.
In Corsica, the strongest gusts still reach over 120 km / h on the far north of the island but also on Île Rousse. In general, however, the trend for improvement continues.
In the south-west, it continues to rain a lot in the Aquitaine basin. The accumulations have reached 20 mm on average since yesterday in the Landes and the north of the Gironde. Due to the soils saturated with moisture due to the rains of recent days, the levels of the Midouze and the Adour upstream are rising, the first overflows may occur on Sunday morning.
At 14 hours, snowfall has intensified under the return of occlusion linked to the depression which crosses the north of France this afternoon.
The return of occlusion around the depression circulating over the north of France is clearly marked by the #snow (pink color on this radar animation) between Haute-Normandie and Hauts-de-France this afternoon. pic.twitter.com/K6QqTBaU3z

Seine-Maritime, the north of the Oise and the Somme are more particularly impacted with 2 to 5 cm on the plateaus. Traffic conditions are getting more complicated in these departments.
The snow plows came into action this afternoon on the road network of Seine-Maritime where the layer reaches 2 to 4 cm locally on the plateaus and hills. https://t.co/uFC2YbDoY7

At 1 pm, under the return of occlusion linked to the depression centered on Seine-Maritime, the situation changed little in Haute-Normandie where it snows above 100 to 150 meters above sea level. The Oise is also affected as well as the Somme. In places, a small layer of 1 to 3 cm of snow forms on the ground.
In the southwest, it continues to rain over southern Aquitaine. Continuous rains are of moderate intensity.
In Corsica, storm Hortense loses intensity and winds begin to weaken. The 100 km / h are no longer exceeded only on the exposed capes and coasts of the island.
At 12 o’clock, snowfall continues in Upper Normandy, usually very weak. This snow temporarily holds onto the ground on Seine-Maritime, giving 1 to 2 cm on the highest hills. This precipitation also concerns the Oise and North Picardy, in the form of rain mainly even if a few flakes can be observed occasionally.
In Corsica, the strongest gusts still reach 170 km / h in the middle of the day on the capes and exposed coasts and more than 100 km / h in the mountains. The improvement is very slow.
At 11 o’clock, it continues to snow lightly above 100 to 150 meters of altitude on average from Normandy to the Paris region. This precipitation remains low on the whole, but very locally a small layer of snow can cover the ground, without any aggravating character.
In Corsica, the strongest gusts no longer exceed 130 km / h. This downward trend in wind intensity will continue throughout the afternoon.
In the south-west, continuous rains of moderate intensity are maintained: since yesterday 15 to 25 mm of water fell in the Landes, up to 38 mm in Cazats in Gironde, which corresponds to 10 days of precipitation. .
In #Normandie, the snow is temporarily hanging on the ground at the Heudebouville tollbooth on the A13 motorway, near Louviers (source: https://t.co/QEn50Jeblp) pic.twitter.com/d46nhmW1HV

At 10 o’clock, the snow temporarily replaces the rain from Normandy to Yvelines above 120 to 150 meters above sea level. On the plateaus and the highest hills, this snow temporarily holds onto the ground but does not cause any difficulty in movement. In the next few hours, these mixed rains and snow will reach Hauts-de-France, with a temporary holding of this snow on the ground above 120 to 150 meters of altitude.
The #snow made its appearance in the Yvelines, in Vernouillet. Despite the enormous size of the flakes, they do not hold onto the ground due to positive temperatures. pic.twitter.com/4PbxJQQELw

In Corsica, the Hortense storm still causes violent winds near the capes and exposed coasts with gusts between 150 and 170 km / h.
At 9 a.m .: the snow mixes with the rain in the northwest, winds still stormy in Corsica
In the return of occlusion and in contact with cold air, snow is produced by isothermal effect from the interior of Normandy to the north of the Pays de la Loire and the Yvelines. This sticky snow is temporarily hanging on the ground above an altitude of 150 meters this morning, without aggravating character, especially as the temperatures remain positive (+1 to + 2 ° C).
The disturbance that happened last night via Brittany concerns the north-west of France this morning with the #snow which mixes with the rain from Normandy to the Yvelines, and which temporarily whitens the soils above 150 to 200 meters in altitude, without aggravating character. pic.twitter.com/B02pYoNbag

In Corsica, the wind continues to blow violently with gusts of 170 km / h at Cape Sagro (2B) and 123 km / h in Ajaccio where the storm continues until mid-day.
At 07:00: mixed rain and snow in the north, strong wind in Corsica
The Atlantic disturbance runs through western France. Arriving on cold air, the rain begins to turn to snow between Normandy and Beauce. But due to positive temperatures, this snow does not stick to the ground. In Corsica, the wind blows in storms with gusts at 214 km / h in Cagnano and 208 km / h in Cape Sagro, 163 km / h in Ile Rousse and 143 km / h in Cape Pertusato.
Friday evening at 6 p.m .: snow at fairly low altitude Burgundy in the Grand Est
In a very cold low-pressure context where disturbances are circulating at the rate of one per day, a rain front concerns the east of the country this evening. With the drop in temperatures, snow is coming to lower and lower altitudes. Thus in Château-Chinon (58) and on the Langres plateau where it is 0 ° C, snow gradually replaces the rain. However, this disturbance is progressing rapidly towards Germany and Switzerland, and this low-level snowfall will stop quickly without causing traffic difficulties in the coming hours in the plains.
But this night, a new pluvio-snow front approaches the Atlantic coast, linked to a depression which is widening in the English Channel. In the return of occlusion and in contact with cold air, snow is expected by isothermal effect from the interior of Brittany to Lower Normandy to the north of Pays de la Loire. This sticky snow will temporarily hold onto the ground from the first heights on Saturday early in the morning.
The air cools this #weekend and the #snow will fall in abundance on average #Mountain. It also risks falling in the plain from this Saturday morning over Normandy, progressing towards the northeast in the afternoon. The soils may turn white on the plateaus and hills. pic.twitter.com/q1VTqtuAQf
