As explained by the Minister of Foreign Trade, Juan Carlos Mathews, the arrival of British visitors to the country fell from 71,000 to 35,000 tourists. A demand that is expected to be recovered with this direct route to London, taking into account that British tourists could spend an average of US$2,000 on each trip to Peru.
«When you compare the tourist that comes from abroad and the local tourist, we are interested in both. However the foreign tourist spend eight or nine times more than the local tourist. The English tourist can be 12 times more, they can spend US$2,000 and have a two-week stay,” she specified.
Latam Airlines Peru is the company that will start these direct flights as of December 1. There will be five weekly trips from Lima to London of 12 flight hours each, which will cost US$ 999, at the current exchange rate of S/ 3,700 on average.
“We are very happy about the start of this operation with our direct flights to London Heathrow International Airport, we became the first Peruvian airline to fly directly to London,” said Manuel Van Oordt, CEO of Latam Airlines Peru.
For his part, the British ambassador in Peru, Gavin Gook, highlighted the relationship between Peru and the United Kingdom, first with the elimination of the visa to travel to London and now with this direct flight to the British country.
“This air route is not only about tourism, it will also strengthen economic ties and investment between both countries. British companies will have more access to the Peruvian market, while Peruvian businessmen will find a more direct route to opportunities in the City of London,” he noted.
