The Diputación Patio de Luces has hosted the presentation of the work ‘Looking at Carlos Pérez Siquier’, by Rodrigo Valero, where the author delves into the most personal and unknown part of the artist. The work is edited by the Institute of Almerian Studies (IEA).
The act has been experienced as a celebration to extol the work and career of Carlos Pérez Siquier with the interventions of the deputy for Culture and Cinema, Almudena Morales; the director of the IEA, Mario Pulido; the author of the book, Rodrigo Valero and the UAL professor and photographer, Blas Fuentes, who led the presentation, as detailed by the provincial institution in a statement.
The launch of this book has included numerous well-known personalities from Almería culture and society as well as different authorities such as the mayoress of Almería, María del Mar Vázquez; the Government delegate of the Junta in Almería, Arnzazu Martín or the president of the Provincial Court, Luis Columna, among others.
The deputy for Culture and Cinema has highlighted that with this work, which is added to the rest of the publications that the Diputación has promoted on Carlos Pérez Siquier, “we continue to expand the knowledge and dissemination of one of the most important artists that our land has produced in the last decades. Thanks to this book we will get to know the less public sphere of the author and, in addition, we will be enriched by the texts of more than 50 experts who value and describe the important contribution of Pérez Siquier to international culture and photography” .
For his part, the author of the book has thanked the support of the IEA to make this work a reality and, in a special way, Carlos himself for opening his “heart” to this project and has shared anecdotes and experiences with the person he considers his teacher because “it was an honor to portray him because he was not very prone to it, it was a wonderful experience with a person who exuded warmth and humanity. He was very close and close. He always supported me and listened and I will always carry that with me. heart”.
The event was also attended by the mayoress of Almera, María del Mar Vzquez, who recalled that “Prez Siquier was the man who best knew how to see the light of Almera, and is an example of a great human and professional career, which which earned him innumerable recognitions, including the City’s Golden Shield. This book comes to make his figure even more remembered”.
On the other hand, Blas Fuentes has stressed that “this work is full of portraits that exude respect and admiration”, and has highlighted the friendship and complicity that Carlos and Rodrigo maintained.
