Eight years ago, YouTube star chose (OnneDi) Dionne Slagter (30) for a breast augmentation, to finally have female shapes after an uncertain period full of bullying and anorexia. But in recent years, the number of stories of women with medical complications caused by silicone breast implants has increased: breast implant illness. This raises the question for Dionne: what’s in my body?
Murder tits
In the new BNNVARA documentary ‘Moordtieten’ she goes in search of the dangers of her silicone breast implants. And where she used to be skeptical, she now gets a result that scares her: a hair test shows that her implants are leaking. Does she also have ‘ticking time bombs’ in her body? Should she say goodbye to her breast implants, or is there an alternative? The documentary ‘Moordtieten’ can be seen on June 1 at 8:25 pm at BNNVARA on NPO 3.
Dionne says she ‘bought’ her femininity with breast implants. And that femininity is at stake for her now that it appears that the silicone from Dionne’s implants is migrating through her body. What if the silicone has lodged in her brain, spine, nerves, heart, and intestines? In some cases this can lead to permanent disability.

The Dangers of Breast Implants
In ‘Murder Tits’, Dionne explores the dangers of her breast implants and speaks to women who have become critically ill and will probably never get better. In one of the women the complaints were so severe that she was confined to the bed for a year. “Health comes first,” say all the women Dionne speaks to, but taking them out turns out to be an incredibly difficult decision. The fear of being thrown back to the pain of before is great. Rather sick than not feeling feminine is lurking. Dionne finds herself in an emotional rollercoaster and she is confronted with the dilemma every woman faces with silicone: the battle between mental and physical health. Many women opt for explanting after a long ordeal – they have their silicone breasts surgically removed. Does Dionne come to the same conclusion?
‘Moordtieten’ is a co-production of BNNVARA and Stepping Stone. The direction is in the hands of Jack Valkering.
