(SenePlus) – As the early legislative elections of November 17 approach, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye launched a solemn appeal to all Senegalese, in particular to political actors of all stripes, inviting them to avoid excesses in their speeches. and their actions during the electoral campaign. In a statement to the nation this Wednesday, the Head of State deplored the proposals and behaviors observed in recent days, carrying “community overtones as well as verbal or physical threats in public space, in the media and on networks social”.
“This is not how we should express our differences,” recalled President Faye, stressing that the elections are a crucial moment of democratic choice, a moment of celebration and not a pretext for discord. He therefore called on each actor to demonstrate responsibility, restraint and moderation, emphasizing the need to collectively preserve the stability and democracy of Senegal.
The President of the Republic also recalled the significant changes experienced in recent months in peace and serenity, saluting the exceptional maturity of the people, the vitality of democracy and the robustness of the country’s institutions. He reaffirmed his commitment to serving every Senegalese, without distinction. To honor this commitment, he recalled having renounced his functions as secretary general of the Pastef les Patriotes Party in order to place himself above partisan quarrels and devote all his energy to the exclusive service of the nation.
Faced with the many challenges awaiting Senegal, President Faye urges every citizen to resist attempts at division and manipulation, stressing that it is in unity that the country will find the strength necessary to meet these challenges. “Together, in solidarity and respect, we will be stronger,” he insisted.
