Allianz: That’s how high the damage to Dinner for One would be
It’s time to look at it from a different angle!
What exactly does butler James destroy in Miss Sophie’s dining room while serving food completely drunk?
Allianz insurance calculated it just for fun.
After dinner with Sir Toby, Admiral von Schneider, Mr. Pommeroy and Mr. Winterbottom, not only the tablecloth is soiled with leftovers of wine and food. Even the tiger’s skin looked better than it did after the old lady’s 90th birthday.
Insurance experts: Damages are not insured
And the landlady will have difficulty reclaiming the damage from her insurance company: Since James is her employee, the troubles he caused are to be regarded as Miss Sophie’s damages – and are therefore not insured.
But: “If James is self-employed or works for a catering service, damages caused by neglecting required care in traffic could be covered by liability insurance,” explains Mirjana Hasdorf-Achatz, damage specialist at Allianz.
“Dinner for One”: The insurance company should compensate this damage
• Cost of cleaning the tablecloth: 10 euros
• Floor cleaning: 100 euros
• missed second course: chicken, 10 euros
The pewter plate that crashes into the wall after James collides with the tiger head should be sturdy enough and doesn’t need to be replaced. The fur of the big cat is different:
• The costs for a new padding and a repair of the tiger’s tooth would be immense: up to 2000 euros.
Insurance expert: Butler James is a ‘repeat offender’
The question remains whether the butler’s drunken state – caused by sherry, white wine, champagne and port – plays a role.
“This is a repeat offender,” explains the expert with a wink. “Of course, from an insurance law perspective, we should consider the conditions under which we would insure it in the future.”
Every year Butler James causes a total damage of: 2120 euros!
Incidentally, Netflix filmed a fun new edition of “Dinner for One” in 2016, with famous characters from the series such as Frank Underwood and Pablo Escobar. (red)
