In the course of the tournament, Nepomniachtchi was leading by one point after the seventh game out of fourteen. In the twelfth match, he lost to Liren – the score was equalized and the main series ended in a draw. The grandmasters fought in a tie-break, where the Chinese player turned out to be stronger. For first place, Liren will receive ₽98.7 million (55% of the prize fund), and Nepomniachtchi will receive ₽80.5 million (45% of the prize fund).
Ian Nepomniachtchi is a Russian chess player, champion of Europe, Russia and world championships as part of the national team.
