After addictology, a new alliance between the Saint-Jean de Dieu psychiatric hospital and its neighbor, the René Pleven hospital center. The two establishments unite to “meet the mental health care needs of children and adolescents”.
Needs that are growing and that the current health crisis does not help.
Doctor François Amiot, child psychiatrist at Saint-Jean-de-Dieu, reports “particular tension at the moment. Adolescents decompensate, are ill due to periods of confinement. The situation is on the rise. It also affects the smallest children, with the wearing of the mask. These findings are reported to us by parents, attending physicians, schools… ”
In the pediatric department of the hospital, the analysis is similar : “We notice, especially among adolescents who consult, situations of discomfort, crises with the family, needs for breaks. Sometimes, hospitalization allows them to distance themselves from their environment, ”explains Julie Poupart, healthcare manager in the pediatric department of Pleven Hospital.
Insufficient supply
In the area, the first access to care in this area is the Saint-Jean de Dieu medico-psychiatric center. But health professionals regret that “in view of the population served, the child psychiatry offer is insufficient in the Côtes-d’Armor both from the point of view of prevention and of hospitalization”.
There are in fact only ten beds for the department. A single complete unit in child psychiatry, located in Saint-Brieuc and continuously saturated, specifies Karine Bidan, director of Saint-Jean-de-Dieu.
