An Israeli military spokesman said yesterday that an anti-aircraft missile launched from Syria towards an Israeli jet exploded near Dimona in southern Israel overnight, triggering a warning siren near the Dimona nuclear reactor.

The Israeli military spokesman identified the projectile as a SA-5 surface-to-air missile fired by Syrian forces.

“The projectile raced off its target to reach the Dimona area, 200 kilometers south of the Syrian border,” said an Israeli spokesman.
