Today, Saturday November 23, 2024, the well-known psychiatrist Dimitris Souras is being buried. Relatives and friends will say their last goodbye to the well-known psychiatrist at 12:00 noon at the First Cemetery of Athens. Dimitris Souras passed away on Tuesday at the age of 72 after a short hospitalization in a private hospital.
It ended after a short battle with a bacterial infection. For the past five days he had been hospitalized at the Metropolitan Hospital and doctors were fighting to keep him alive.
He did not respond to medication
According to information, the psychiatrist allegedly did not respond to the medication given to him by the doctors and as a result he breathed his last on Tuesday.
The trip to Egypt
Dimitris Souras had returned from a trip to Egypt and possibly there the exposure to the pathogen took place. Hospital sources assure that he already carried the germ and it was not a nosocomial infection.
The news of his death was made known by his daughter Nikis, who uploaded her father’s farewell message on his personal social media accounts, writing characteristically “I will follow you from above!”.
Who was Dimitris Souras?
Dimitris Souras was born in 1952 in Volos, where he remained until he was 18 years old. He then studied at the Medical School and specialized in Psychiatry in various hospitals in Athens and abroad (Italy, France, America).
He worked as a private psychiatrist-psychotherapist for the last 40 years, he was the director of the Psychiatric Clinic of the Metropolitan Hospital and the psychiatrist in charge of the Onassii Cardiac Surgery Center in matters of pre-transplant control.
He married Eleni Marouda and together they had a daughter, Niki.
The well-known psychiatrist appeared on many television shows whenever his opinion was sought mainly on serious crimes such as femicides. From time to time he had mentioned the cases of Babis Anagnostopoulos, Roula Pispirigou and recently Irini Mourtzoukou.
His last TV appearance was a week ago on a TV show to talk about the femicide in Agrinio where he appeared visibly overwhelmed.
