Dimitri Payet’s Adaptation to Rio de Janeiro: Support from Vasco Colleagues

Léo Jardim is one of the Vasco players who will help Payet settle in. The new number 10 understands and speaks a little English, but likes to communicate in the language of his country, which can be a barrier at first. The goalkeeper, who played for Lille for three years, speaks French.

– I speak a little French, I’ve already spoken with him, I’m available to help him adapt as soon as possible. He will help us a lot – said Léo Jardim, who already played against Payet in France.

Other colleagues will support the newly signed star. In addition to the goalkeeper, defender Robson, who has been playing at right-back, is also familiar with the Frenchman – he played the 2020/21 season for Nice, the club to which he still belongs.

There is no shortage of people to help with French at Vasco: two members of the club’s football department also speak the language. Léo Matos played for Olympique de Marseille, a club where Payet is an idol, and Abel Braga had two spells in France, one playing for PSG and the other working at Olympique.

Vasco will play again next Sunday, against Palmeiras, at 6:30 pm, at Allianz Parque. Payet should not yet be available to coach Ramón Díaz.
