Dimensity 9300 Chipset: Overheating Issues Threaten Performance and Market Position

The very bold architecture of the Dimensity 9300 processor with four powerful and four extremely powerful cores is taking its toll, according to leaker Evan Blass. The chipset is said to suffer from overheating, which may force the manufacturer to significantly limit performance to keep the cooling of the chip at bay.

The verified leaker Evan Blass brings us very unpleasant news about the upcoming Dimensity 9300 chipset, which is to be presented soon. It will become MediaTek’s flagship processor for the year 2024 and we will probably find it at least in the models of the vivo X100 series. We have also known about the chip for some time that it has an unconventional assembly of four powerful Cortex-A720 cores and four extra powerful Cortex-X4 cores. All other new chips will still only have one X-type core.

This means that a large increase in performance is expected, even if the chip will still be manufactured with TSMC’s 4nm N4P technology and not 3nm, as in the case of the Apple A17. However, Blass now claims that this unique construction is taking its toll, and in a big way. Apparently, MediaTek has serious overheating issues with the Dimensity 9300, which means the chipset isn’t delivering the performance promised to phone makers if the company wants to keep device temperatures tolerable.

This may create an uneasy atmosphere between MediaTek and other brands, as the partners may now have to settle for limited performance. Alternatively, it would be necessary to redesign the inside of the device and install stronger cooling. Either way, it’s bad news for phone makers who wanted to take advantage of the 9300. All of this may also mean that previous rumors about how the Dimensity 9300 will be up to 50% more economical than its predecessor may not come true after all. In short, it is not certain what will happen to the next flagship chip now and in what state it will arrive in the market. This is certainly not pleasing at a time when MediaTek wants to consolidate its position in the market and start taking over Qualcomm’s clients.
