The old, dilapidated mourning hall of the new cemetery in Offenbach has to go, that’s indisputable. The traffic light has postponed this for lack of money. The CDU reprimands that.

EActually, the Offenbach local politicians were largely in agreement that the mourning hall of the New Cemetery is dilapidated and the substance is damaged, that only a new building will solve the problem in the long term. But at the beginning of the year, treasurer Martin Wilhelm (SPD) had to announce that the increased prices in the construction industry had caused the costs originally estimated at six million euros to rise to around 10.6 million euros, which would overwhelm the poor city financially. The coalition of the SPD, the Greens and the FDP therefore decided to have the building examined to see whether it would be sufficient to refurbish it and whether a new building could wait another ten years.
On the other hand, the CDU parliamentary group leader Roland Walter had already expressed concerns in January. Alarmed by “catastrophic conditions” and unacceptable working conditions for staff and undertakers, he sharply criticized the traffic light plan and accused Wilhelm of “deliberately delaying” the funeral hall. Walter demands that a new building be built immediately on the basis of existing plans.
