Famoji Sports Marketing, organizer of the historic Gold Label Okpekpe International 10km road race, says the appointment of Shehu Diko as Chairman of the National Sports Commission is the best thing in the history of sports administration in Nigeria since the era of Dr. Isaac Akioye in the mid-1970s to early 1980s. described.
Dr. Akioye started a revolution that transformed sports in Nigeria before the current crash. He was the then Secretary General of the National Sports Council from 1975 to 1981.
Mike Ememuagbo, one of the few marketing experts in Nigeria and the Chief Executive Officer of Famozi Sports Marketing, said President Bola Tinubu was highly praised for not only returning the National Sports Commission, but also appointing Diko as its Chairman. I believe what you did was very good.

“President Tinubu may have made the boldest move in recent years to revive the sports sector and ensure it serves as a development tool. Sports can be a game-changer for social and economic development.” Itemuagbor, who revolutionized road running events in Nigeria, made the Okpekpe International 10km Road Race the first truly world-class road race in Nigeria.
“Sport promotes community unity, promotes healthy lifestyles and creates jobs. Sports also stimulate local economies through infrastructure development and create business opportunities through sponsorships and events. It creates social change. It can be a powerful tool for.”
To achieve all this, a qualified individual must become the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, the highest body that regulates sports in Nigeria, and Itemuagbor believes Dikko ticks all the boxes as an ‘ideal sports administrator’.
“The ideal sports administrator balances leadership, strategy and empathy. He or she is skilled at managing teams, understanding sports policy and creating a positive environment for players and staff.
“He must have the vision, strong communication and adaptability to navigate the ever-changing sporting landscape and Dikko is the right person,” Itemuagbor said, revealing that the new NSC helmsman was specially prepared for the role.
“He served as the second-tier president of the Nigeria Football Federation, was the head of a league management company, and served and still serves on various CAF and FIFA committees. He has attended several seminars and workshops on sports administration and marketing.

“He has the marketing skills that are essential for a sports manager. He has the skills to effectively promote his team, events and organization, and this includes an understanding of digital marketing, brand management and audience engagement. Dikko is a social “I am well-versed in media, sponsorship and public relations.”
Itemuagbor believes Dikko’s appointment will benefit many sports promoters in Nigeria who are contemplating quitting as their effective marketing has been affected by the toxic environment created by past sports ministers.
He said he felt refreshed to continue his role as a leader in the Nigerian road running competition. This role has resulted in two World Athletics label road races and as many as 17 races recognized by the sport’s international body.
“The positive environment expected with Dikko’s appointment is renewed by his determination to continue to lead the way as the main promoter of the Okpekpe International 10km Road Race, a road running event where the race course is measured by a World Athletics certified course measurer. “This is the first of its kind in West Africa,” he added.
“The event was also first granted label status in 2015, just a year after World Athletics began classifying road running events as world-class.”
