Dijon’s Top 16 Champions League Match: JDA Dijon loses at home against Ludwigsburg

JDA Dijon lost at home (82-89) against Ludwigsburg for its first match in the Top 16 of the Champions League.

Dijon’s failed entry into the Top 16 of the Champions League, the third competition in the continental hierarchy. Brilliantly qualified for this phase of the competition, without having to go through a play-off, after winning their regular season group, the JDA lost 82-89 at home against the Germans from Ludwigsburg and is already doing poorly in view of the quarter-finals, which will be reserved for the two best teams in this group of four. The Burgundians, seventh in Betclic Elite, were twelve points ahead of the sixth in the Bundesliga, but they collapsed.

Dijon misses its second half

Dijon started the match well by winning the first quarter 25-18, then had a lead of up to twelve points in the second (39-27, 15th), but the Germans came back to -6 at the break (47-41). After returning from the locker room, Ludwigsburg gradually reduced the gap and ended up taking the lead after several ties (57-58, 28th). And following a bad third quarter, ultimately losing 12-22, Dijon plunged at the end of the match. The Germans led from one end to the other of this last quarter, counting up to ten points in advance (76-86) to win by seven, in the wake of Silas Melson who finished with 23 points on the clock (5/7 at 3pts).

On the Dijon side, no player exceeded 15 points, Ahmad Caver being content with 14 and David Holston with 13. The JDA, which was largely dominated in rebounding (20 against 35), will absolutely have to recover next week on the floor of Galatasaray, beaten by thirteen points in Bonn, another German team, for its entry into the running. Remember that Cholet and Strasbourg are the two other French teams still qualified in this Champions League. Placed in Group I, they will face each other on Wednesday at La Meilleraie.

The Dijon markers: Caver (14), Hammonds (11), Ducoté (7), Oniangue (6), Alingue (6), Holston (13), Hrovat (8), Chikoko (2), Hunt (9), Dokossi (6)
