Health. Thursday January 26, during the traditional ceremony of wishes to staff and partners, the new director of the university hospital center, Freddy Serveaux, took stock of a year 2023, which he described as “dense and rich” and judged “eventful”, by François Rebsamen, mayor of Dijon, president of Dijon Métropole and president of the supervisory board of the CHU.

If the councilor praised the merits of this establishment “which stands out for its exemplary nature and which is ranked thirteenth among French hospitals by the magazine Le Point, which is a reference in the matter”, Freddy Serveaux was keen to point out that the CHU is not spared from difficulties, particularly with regard to the recruitment of healthcare professionals who have become increasingly rare, despite significant recruitments made in 2023.
“In January 2024, we will have 230 more staff compared to January 2023, including 50 doctors and 180 non-medical professionals. Likewise, we recruited around ten additional nurses and opened 90 new beds. Finally, we experienced an increase in our healthcare activity of 3% over one year, which reflects the population’s confidence in our hospital.”
600 million euros to build the future
The director then listed some achievements and progress of the year. “There is the opening of new pediatric emergencies and that of multimodal rooms which embody our high level of technicality… I think that our platform is today one of the most beautiful technical platforms in France… In Dijon we can say that the glass is 3/4 full”, he congratulated himself before addressing the future: “2024 is the first step in a ten-year vision”, thus referring to the new establishment project “to develop collaboratively.”

On the program: an urban master plan which should result in new extensions: “The bocage egg, as it is nicknamed, is full. It is essential that we build, not for the pleasure of building, but to allow professionals to practice in good conditions and patients to have the best possible care. For this, a multi-annual investment program of 600 million euros over ten years will be released, including 380 million over the next five years. It is the good management of the University Hospital which makes this exceptional effort possible.” “Public health will be a priority with a strong commitment to screening and prevention,” announced Professor Alain Bonnin, president of the Establishment Medical Commission (CME) of the CHU.
“Cancer care is the second major university hospital program at the heart of our establishment project, notably with the extension of the outpatient medical cancer unit. In surgery, we will strengthen our reference position. Mental health and neuroscience will be another strong axis to see the birth of an integrative and modern psychiatry in our territory. We will also have to define expert pathways to enable comprehensive patient care, from prevention to personalized care.”
“Internal governance will be re-examined to co-construct with more flexibility. We will also continue to strengthen our teams, with the quality of life at work in mind,” added Freddy Servaux before concluding with these words: “ Dijon Burgundy University Hospital is the eighteenth in terms of surface area, which places it in the category of medium-sized establishments. In terms of research, it is on par with the biggest and finally, it has all the qualities of small establishments through its responsiveness. In a word, our university hospital is the perfect size! “.
