DIJON: The National Police work locally

As Christmas gifts, the Dijon police station received two Peugeot 5008s and a Renault Zoé. The eagerly awaited 5008s are made in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, in Sochaux-Montbéliard. Other vehicles will arrive in 2021, corresponding to a renewal of the vehicle fleet desired by the Ministry of the Interior.

It is not really Santa Claus who delivered the new vehicles of the National Police in Dijon but the Ministry of the Interior. On the occasion of the examination of the third amending finance law for 2020, the Parliament voted to reinforce the appropriations of the Ministry of the Interior of 75 million euros to initiate the renewal of a quarter of the car fleet of police and gendarmes.

The ministry has selected vehicles made in France which will continue to arrive in police stations and barracks throughout 2021. For the whole of France, 1,263 electric vehicles, 1,500 electric bicycles and 1,335 thermal vehicles will be deployed.

The manufacturer with the lion takes a good share of the market since the Peugeot 5008 was chosen as the reference vehicle for combustion engines. The copies are manufactured in the factories of the PSA group in Sochaux (Doubs) and Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine) and processed in Poissy (Yvelines). The diamond firm is not left out since the Renault Zoe has been chosen for electric vehicles.

Several 5008s and Zoé for the police in Côte-d’Or

Regarding the National Police in Côte-d’Or, in 2021, the border police of Chenôve will receive a Peugeot 5008, the judicial police of Dijon a Renault Zoé, the central direction of police recruitment and training. national in Dijon one Peugeot 5008, the departmental direction of public security in Dijon two Peugeot 5008, four Renault Zoé and two electric bikes.

To date, the two Peugeot 5008s and a Renault Zoé are already in service at the Dijon Police Hall. The 5008 was delivered in the Active Business PureTech 130 horsepower version for a displacement of 1.2 liters of petrol. It has five places, the two additional places in the civilian version are reserved for the integration of electronic tools related to the exercise of functions.

The color is an artense gray which provides many nuances depending on the light environment. The vehicle is completed with a “National Police” screen printing, a light bar on the roof and blue diodes on the radiator grille. The 17-inch alloy wheels are shod with Michelin Primacy.

If the price has not been specified, the price of the civil version starts at 33,000 euros including tax. Note that this SUV weighs 1,300 kg in its consumer version, which is less than the limit of 1,800 kg resulting in a penalty from 2022.

“These vehicles patrol 24 hours a day”

On January 5, 2021, Commander Bruno Edelin, deputy chief of staff of the Côte-d’Or departmental public security directorate, explains that “these two vehicles have been allocated to specialized field clamping – commonly referred to as BST – and to the day rolling clamping. The BST carries out searches for flagrante delicto and secures sensitive neighborhoods while the rotation squad carries out emergency police missions.

The 5008 replaces two Citroën Berlingo which had exceeded 160,000 kilometers on the clock. “It is a more comfortable vehicle for the missions” enthuses the police officer, “the ministry ensures that the police officers work in better conditions, with equipment which better meets their expectations and these vehicles correspond perfectly to what looking for colleagues ”. “These vehicles patrol regularly 24 hours a day, passing through several brigades in order to ensure continuity of service throughout the day,” he explains.

Gray artense vehicles

The national police are counting on the media coverage around this new equipment to let people know that the livery of the cars is changing, from traditional white to this artense gray. “People will gradually get used to these new colors,” said Captain Bruno Edelin.

“At the beginning, people are quite surprised because they don’t expect to see a police vehicle of that color, they are used to white and we are not immediately identified as police officers, therefore, at first, some people who can commit offenses – like not having a belt – will be surprised and that could serve as a lesson, ”he considers.

Charging stations for Zoe

The Renault Zoe is unmarked, it is assigned to investigative teams of the judicial police. It will be used for “the use of transport to go to various meetings or to observation sites” indicates Commander Bruno Edelin.

In its latest version, the Zoe has a range of close to 400 kilometers, depending on the driving mode and the activation of the heating. The car is produced in the Renault factory in Flins (Yvelines).

Asked by the Ministry of the Interior, the DDSP 21 responded favorably to be awarded this model. “Indeed, the ecological side seemed to us something good at the environmental level” underlines the commander Bruno Edelin who adds that there was “an expectation of colleagues for missions in town”.

To support the arrival of the Zoes, electric charging stations will be installed at the Dijon police station. This is a piece of equipment within the framework of the France Relance plan: 50,000 euros have been budgeted for work in the police stations of Dijon, Chenôve and Beaune (read the press release).
