DIJON: The municipality invites residents to plant a tree for each birth

The seventh planting of the Children’s Forest will take place on Sunday, November 21. Entertainment will be offered throughout the day.

Communiqué from the City of Dijon of November 17, 2021:

CHILDREN’S FOREST: DIJONNAIS INVITED TO PLAN A TREE FOR EVERY BIRTH

Every action counts in adapting to climate change and making Dijon the city of 56,000 trees. In this context, François REBSAMEN, mayor of Dijon, president of Dijon metropolis, invites you to the 7th plantation of the Children’s Forest on:

Sunday November 21, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Chemin de la Rente Giron – Dijon
A glass of friendship will be offered to you at 11 a.m.

Founded in 2015, the Children’s Forest is a participatory action in favor of the preservation of biodiversity and the enhancement of nature in the city. Each family in the metropolis, one of whose children was born during the year, is invited to plant a tree to celebrate his birth. Its inhabitants are thus involved in a symbolic and concrete action of planting trees around the territory. A planting certificate, symbolizing this commitment, will be given to each family. The Children’s Forest will thus grow and strengthen the green belt around Dijon to eventually form a natural corridor joining the Plateau de la Cras.

Through this afforestation operation, in the heart of the “green lung” of the agglomeration between Lake Kir and combes, Dijon Métropole is expanding this space dedicated to biodiversity, peri-urban agriculture, nature recreation and education in favor of ecology. It is a message for the attention of future generations to forge a first link between the newborn child and the environment that surrounds him, to preserve a fragile nature and to help redesign the landscape of the territory.

The tree species selected are among those growing naturally on the site and selected for their honey potential, dear to pollinating insects and their ability to adapt to climate change.

Many activities are offered to visitors throughout the day:

Make-up workshops with Marjolaine MARCHAL
