The president of Dijon Métropole reacts to the establishment of a reinforced curfew from this Sunday, January 10. François Rebsamen confirms the consultation with the prefect of the Côte-d’Or but considers that “nothing has been proven in the matter” and that “rural and urban areas are interconnected”.
The Côte-d’Or having exceeded the threshold of 200 for the seven-day rolling incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants, the department was under surveillance for an extension of the curfew to 6 p.m. Nevertheless, this Saturday January 9, 2021, François Rebsamen (PS), president of Dijon Métropole reacts to the effective application and specifies that “the measure was not expected” because “this measure has not proved its effectiveness, far s ‘in need, people are going to congregate in supermarkets, hours will be reduced ”
“I’m a little sad for the traders”
“I am thinking above all of shopkeepers and restaurateurs,” continues François Rebsamen, “who will suffer the double penalty. Those who had invested (…) by preparing click & collect, take-away meals will be forced to stop this activity which constituted the major part of their activity between 6 pm and 8 pm. So, I am a little sad for the traders, for the metropolis. If I was sure that this measure brings health comfort to the population, I would not make this comment. Nothing is proven in the matter. We have the impression that the government is doing this because it does not know what else to do at the moment ”.
“I see the difficulty of the thing, we will apply the decisions” adds the president of Dijon Métropole, “I deeply regret it, moreover all the mayors of the big cities regret this kind of things. It’s pretty sad because there is no scientific data that allows us to tell. We follow the evolution of the disease from day to day. It actually increased slightly in the department, but now they invented the mythical figure of 200 last week because it was necessary to justify that the Côte-d’Or did not go into the red zone ”.
“Paris has made the decision, we will apply”
Asked about the consultation announced by the Prime Minister, the President of the Metropolis confirms: “last week, I had the Minister of Health for a long time to discuss on the phone. I explained the reasons to him, I explained the reasons to him and I think he took them into account ”. “Yesterday, the prefect [de la Côte-d’Or] called me “continues François Rebsamen,” I still shared my remarks, I know that there have been discussions at the highest level since other elected officials have indicated their preference not to move things . I said what I had to say to the préfet, he listened to me, he transmitted. Paris has made the decision, we will apply ”.
“People come to do their shopping in Dijon”
Among the local elected officials, François Sauvadet (UDI), president of the departmental council of Côte-d’Or, had asked for an extension of the curfew limited to the Dijon metropolis. This made François Rebsamen react: “Mr. Sauvadet’s words saying that in rural areas, there is no problem, I do not know what they come under. There are more contaminations in Nièvre or Haute-Saône than in Dijon. It is not a question of rural or urban areas [qui ] are interconnected. People come to do their shopping in Dijon ”.
