DIJON: Many people applaud the descent of Santa Claus from the Philippe le Bon tower

Santa Claus respected the tradition, this Friday, December 24, making a descent secured by the firefighters. The distribution of twists was especially expected by many children.

Santa Claus stopped in Dijon in the distribution of gifts. This Saturday, December 24, 2022, he did not miss the traditional descent from the highest point of the palace of the Dukes of Burgundy, the Philippe le Bon tower.

Place de la Liberation and in the main courtyard, nearly 3,000 people had gathered to participate in the event organized by the City of Dijon, which carried out the count.

“Journey to the heart of the four seasons”

Previously, children and adults were able to attend the sound and light projection “Journey to the Heart of the Four Seasons” designed by AV Extended with the technical resources of ID Scènes, two Montpellier companies. A show closely followed by Nathalie Koenders in particular, first deputy mayor of Dijon.

The installation mobilized five people at the start of the celebrations and, since then, the projection has been supervised by a technician who verifies the correct functioning of the eight 30,000 lumen video projectors and media servers.

Firefighters get Santa to safety

To ensure his descent, Santa mobilized the Gold Coast Fire Department’s Hazardous Environment Reconnaissance and Intervention Group (GRIMP), specifically six officers from the Transvaal and Central-North barracks.

The firefighters used the same equipment they use for rescues at height: a zipline, pulleys, harnesses and an 80m rope. The device can support 1.5 tons, which means that Santa Claus can bring many gifts.

Distribution of aluminum packages

Once the rain had disappeared, the descent lasted two short minutes under the astonished eyes of the children and warm applause. Once on the ground, the little red man distributed the twists to the children.

City council elected officials played elves for one night. Fabien Robert, Christine Martin and Franck Lehenoff then arrived as reinforcements under the eyes of the Civil Defense rescuers.

However, Santa circled the entire perimeter and even responded to requests for selfies before resuming his night tour of Dijon.
