Dijon highlights its assets to host the headquarters of the OIV

Dijon hopes to be designated to host the headquarters of the international organization of vine and wine. The representatives of the OIV discovered this Friday the place where their offices could be set up.

The Bouchu d’Esterno mansion in Dijon (Côte-d’Or) could well accommodate the future headquarters of the international organization of vine and wine, the OIV. This Friday, September 10, the prefect of Côte-d’Or, the mayor of Dijon and the secretary of state in charge of tourism, Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne gave a tour of the establishment to representatives of the 48 member states of the OIV. .

The stakes are high, it is to convince them to settle in Burgundy. A unanimous vote is necessary to confirm the choice. The mayor of Dijon and the president of the OIV want to believe it.

“Dijon will not only become, through the OIV, the world capital of wine. But it will also become so because it has an absolutely formidable university network, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site”, said the PS mayor of Dijon François Rebsamen. “The Unesco vine and wine chair is here. It is already working with the OIV. So this is an additional asset.”

“It’s good that this organization is in a city where there is a network and other university research structures”, acknowledged Luigi Moio, the Italian president of the OIV.

The organization represents 85% of world wine production. If Dijon becomes the headquarters of the organization, this will inevitably participate in the international influence of the city and Burgundy.

“Very nice welcome”

“There was a very warm welcome” of the quarantine of representatives of OIV member states who came to visit, on Friday, the mansion proposed to house the organization, Secretary of State Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne told the press.

France, which has been the host state of the OIV since its creation in 1924, proposes to move its headquarters from Paris, where its premises are too small, and to move it to the region. The French government chose Dijon to do this, to the detriment of the other two candidates, Bordeaux and Reims.

This choice must still be ratified during a general assembly of the OIV to be held on October 25 in Dijon precisely, and in an exceptional manner.

The installation in Dijon should coincide with the centenary of the organization in 2024. The Bouchu d’Esterno hotel, a 17th century building chosen for the probable new headquarters, will undergo 8 million euros works to accommodate the OIV , said the mayor of Dijon.

The hotel is located a few hundred meters from the future City of Gastronomy and Wine, which is due to open next April. The OIV is an intergovernmental body of a scientific and technical nature with recognized competence in the field of vine and wine.
